The first official trailer for Netflix’s upcoming war drama All Quiet on the Western Front is out. The film is an adaptation of Erich Maria Remarque’s 1929 novel of the same name. Remarque, a World War I veteran himself, talks about the gritty realities of war and how it physically and psychologically breaks down the soldiers.
The novel was first adapted into an Academy Award-winning film by legendary Hollywood filmmaker Lewis Hamilton in 1930. The 2022 version is directed by Edward Berger, who has also co-written the film along with Ian Stokell and Leslie Peterson. The film stars Captain America: Civil War actor Daniel Brühl, along with supporting cast members Albrecht Schuch, Sebastian Hülk, Felix Kammerer, Aaron Hilmer, Edin Hasanovic and Devid Striesow.
The novel gained acclaim for portraying the debilitating effects of war through a uniquely German lens. James Friend is handling the cinematography for the film, he has previously worked with the director on the series Patrick Melrose.
All Quiet on the Western Front will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on 12 September while the Netflix release date is confirmed to fall on 28 October 2022.
