Actor Daniel Craig, who recently retired from the role of James Bond, was honoured with The Order of St Michael and St George for his contribution to film and theatre. The honour was conferred upon him by the late queen’s daughter Princess Anne. Queen Elizabeth had reportedly added the actor’s name to the list of recipients before passing away.
Coincidentally, the fictional spy James Bond also holds the same honour. Later this year, the British Royal Navy made James Bond an honouray commander, another similarity between the actor and James Bond. The actor first appeared as James Bond in the 2006 film Casino Royale, directed by Martin Campbell. The actor ended his five-film run as 007 with No Time to Die, which was released in 2021.
Following Craig’s retirement, producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson, who currently oversee the Bond franchise, are looking for a younger actor to play the iconic spy this time.
